Cornell University's Asian Pacific Americans for Action (APAA) would like to invite you to attend our
upcoming Asian Pacific American Women's Collegiate Conference, which will run from November 12-13, 2004.
This conference will be the first of its kind, inviting Asian American females from colleges across the
United States to create awareness about the issues they face under this unique identity.
The theme of this conference is "Asian American Women: Road to Self Discovery and Empowerment." We seek
to explore some of the issues that APA college women currently face. Up until now, we do not feel that we
have had the chance to discuss these issues in depth. Such issues include APA feminism, APA female student
activism, voting, dual identity, body image, depression, interracial relationships, family expectations,
and APA females in the workplace.
With the onset conference, we plan to bring together Asian American female leaders in their respective
fields, to share their personal experiences with both Cornell students and other outside college students.
The speakers will focus their discussions on issues they deal with under this unique, dual identity of a
minority woman. We hope that this conference will motivate and encourage all minority females, especially
Asian American females, to pursue fields where little to no representation exists. |
